LEGENDARY CARTOONIST: Raghu


Early 60’s, one Mr Kanneppadi Ramakrishna, Lawyer by profession used to draw cartoons in the name of ‘Raghu’. But the coastal readers still remember his Cartoon character ‘Shinganna..!’ published in ‘Nava Bharatha’ a daily Newspaper. It was identified as a nose based common man. Later his pocket Cartoons were published in Udayavani and Prajavani (Chinakurali), largely attracted than its daily headlines.
When he was studying in Banaras he has started cartooning in hindi for ‘Aaj’ a local paper and later for ‘Amrutha Bazaar’ an Allahabad based newspaper. Also successful in trying his hand at tamil ‘Kalki’and ‘Malayala Manorama’.
For kids he has created a cool strip cartoon ‘Damma, Dimmi, Taami’was popular at the weekend published in Saapthaahika Udayavani.
Hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed his cartoons with a cup of morning tea for 30 long years is not a Joke..!!!

ABOUT ME



My Interest towards drawing & painting made me to go for cartooning along with the growing tendency of Satirical expression of every event taking place around me. There was a day when my cartoons (about 10000) appeared in almost all Kannada Publications.First cartoon appeared in 1979, out of 7 cartoons sent to 'Thushara'. Rs 10 recieved for that was the happiest moment in my life !
This write up is special for me ! Special because writing about Cartoonists is more difficult than drawing a cartoon ! I am trying to give you the gist of profiles of prominent cartoonists across Karnataka, just by my association with their cartoons. All of them had entertaining and educative cartooning journey.
With the intention of educating the public about the threats to the environment, an Exhibition on ‘Global warming and Climate change’ held recently at different places for more than 10 times. Cartoons featuring the earth personified in suffering received much attention. First of all we are giving here the Profiles of cartoonists participated in this Exhibition . Later we cover others. But before that, Legendary cartoonists from our state will give due respect. There is no protocol .( will be continued...)

'ಬಡಿಸಿದ ಎಲೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಕೂತು ಅಡಿಗೆಯವರಾರು ? ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ತೂಕಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆಯೇ..? - ರಾಶಿಯವರು ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯಚಿತ್ರಕಾರರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವಾಗ ಅದನ್ನು ಬರೆದವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂಕ್ತವಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಬೃಹ್ಮರ ಪರಿಚಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗತವಾಗಿ ಅಗತ್ಯವಲ್ಲವೇ ? ಈ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರಕಾರರು ಬರೇ ನಗಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಸಂದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ರವಾನಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೆ ಕೂಡ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿರಬಹುದು. ಇದರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಅವರ ಸಾಧನೆ ಅನನ್ಯ!
ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಗೌರವದ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ 'ಜಾಗತಿಕ ತಾಪಮಾನ ಏರಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹವಾಮಾನ ವೈಪರೀತ್ಯ' ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಿದ ಸರಣಿ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಖ್ಯಾತ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರಕಾರರ ಪರಿಚಯ. ನಂತರ ಉಳಿದವರದು. ಆದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ಹಿರಿಯ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಚೇತನಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ .!!
